Our Philosophy

Grounded in understanding. Open to possibility.

We believe consultation is at its best when there is space to be curious, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. We aim to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where therapists can bring their own knowledge, experiences, identities, perspectives, and ways of working into the conversation. Different perspectives enrich the consultation process and create opportunities for shared learning and new ways of thinking about clinical practice.

At Keelway, you are welcome to come as you are: with your experience, your questions, your curiosity, and your own way of seeing the work. Consultation is a space to learn together, deepen understanding, and remain open to where new knowledge and new perspectives might lead.

Consultation with Andrea

A space for curiosity, conversation, and deeper understanding.

My approach to consultation is warm, collaborative, and curious. I want consultation to feel like a conversation where you can ask questions, explore ideas, consider different perspectives, and deepen your understanding of the work.

I bring specialized knowledge in EMDR, pain neuroscience, neuroplastic pain, trauma, and nervous system regulation to the conversation, while making space for thoughtful discussion and the experience you already bring to your practice.

I am particularly interested in the why behind clinical approaches. Consultation might involve exploring an EMDR concept more deeply, developing your understanding of neuroplastic pain, looking at the relationship between pain, fear, threat, and the nervous system, discussing emerging research, or considering how different therapeutic frameworks can complement one another.

You can expect an inclusive and welcoming space where questions are encouraged and different perspectives are valued. My hope is that you leave consultation with deeper understanding, new perspectives to consider, and greater confidence in applying what you have learned within your own practice.

Bring your experience. Bring your questions. Stay curious about what might be possible.

The person behind Keelway Practice

Hi, I’m Andrea Keel. I’m a Registered Social Worker (MSW, RSW) based in Edmonton, Alberta, and the founder of Keelway Practice.

Professionally, I’m an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant in Training. I’m also trained in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), with an Advanced Expertise standing. Other trainings include EMDR Pain Protocol, EMDR and Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Approaches to Pain and Nervous System Regulation, among others,  with a particular interest in pain neuroscience, neuroplastic pain, trauma, and nervous system regulation.

My interest in these areas is professional, but it is also deeply personal. My own experience of medical trauma, including a serious  life-threatening medical event, and my recovery journey profoundly changed the way I understood trauma and how our experiences can continue to show up in the body long after the immediate danger has passed. Those experiences have stayed with me. They have also fueled my curiosity about the connections between the brain, body, pain, threat, safety, and trauma, and have shaped the areas of clinical practice I have chosen to explore more deeply.

I’ve always been someone who wants to understand the why behind things. I love learning, making connections between ideas, and taking complex clinical concepts and making them feel more understandable and useful in practice.

Outside of work, I’m a wife, a very proud dog mom to a miniature dachshund, an enthusiastic Broadway lover, and happiest when I have another trip somewhere in the world to look forward to. Travel, theatre, good conversation, and probably talking about my dog more than necessary are all very much part of who I am.

Keelway Practice brings together much of what matters to me: knowledge, curiosity, connection, and the belief that deeper understanding can open the door to new possibilities.
